The Pioneer Umpiring Program is open to individuals 13 years of age and older that would like to work our regular season and playoff games. Requirements to participate are as follows:
Must be 13 years of age or older.
Must be certified by the National Umpire Association. (Interested individuals should register to become a member of the NUA. After applying, you will be sent a baseball rule book and exam that must be completed prior to umpiring. In order to pass you need to score 80% or better. There is a small fee associated with the exam.)
Must have an account with Venmo or PayPal to receive payments.
Must be responsible, reliable, and be willing to work with our umpring director to determine your availability.
Must attend a preseason meeting with our Umpire Director to discuss scheduling and procedures.
Former Pioneer players will be given preference, but the program is open everyone. Umpires must also purchase their own uniform.
Upon completion of the certification exam, umpires new to the league will be required to attend a 2 hour on-field clinic given by one of our experienced umpires. At that point they will be required to work one game with two experienced umpires without pay.
Once a new umpire has fulfilled all of the requirements listed above they will begin umpiring games as part of a one or two-person team. Umpires will be paid on the following scale:
$50 per game for each umpire as part of a two-person team
Senior umpires who work games alone will be compensated $75 per game
Games typically last anywhere from one and a half to two hours.
